2) Now, take the twenty values and put them into two columns
a) Values you believe you have or possess.  Look back in your life and reflect on your behaviour and see what it is you did in the past that illustrates that this value is something you have acted on.
b) Values you believe you would like to have.  Again look back in your life and see where you have not done something you felt you should of done and did not. This column is for items you would like to do or should do and do not.

3) Now that you have the two columns, remove 50% of the words you wrote.

4) Now that you have less items in your columns 50% of the words you wrote again. (if you can)

What you now have is a word or two that describes your true values and a word or two that describes values you would like to live.  How to do this is not with force but rather by making the new value SAFE to have and live with.

Congratulations you now have the ability to distinguish the difference between what you really value and what you would like to value. Knowing this can reduce the strife within.
